Who can submit an abstract?

We invite trainees at all levels (Undergraduate, Masters or PhD Students, Post-Doctoral Fellows, Residents) and research staff (Research Associates/Technicians/Allied Health Professionals) to submit an abstract of their work.

All those who wish to submit must be registered for CHRD before submitting an abstract.

How are abstracts categorized?

Abstracts will be grouped into training categories:

·        Undergraduate

·        Masters

·        PhD

·        Post-Doctoral

·        Residents

·        Non-Trainees

**Groups may be merged if there are too few submissions for the purpose of maintaining adequate competition.

Abstracts will also be categorized in 3 themes:

·        Basic Science

·        Clinical

·        Community Health/Policy.

What happens after abstracts are submitted?

All submitted abstracts will be included in the CHRD Poster Competition, provided space remains available. While we currently have a large capacity for posters, please note that space may fill up with a high volume of submissions. If we reach maximum capacity, we will prioritize space for trainees. This also may require limiting presenting one poster per student.

What can I expect for the CHRD Poster Competition?

Participants will present their poster at the CHRD Poster Competition.

Participants are expected to remain present at their poster for the full duration of the session. There will be a minimum of 2-3 judges reviewing your poster. Judges will introduce themselves when they arrive, take a moment to view the poster in detail and then notify participant when to proceed with the presentation.

What is the Poster Presentation format?

It will consist of a 5-minute presentation of the poster, delivered in person to 2-3 judges. The judges will follow up with 3 minutes of Q&A.

What is Dr. GoodBear’s Den?

Dr. GoodBear’s Den is an oral presentation given during the conference sessions.

Participants will have the option to upload a short audio clip of their presentation during the abstract submission process. The top ranked submissions will be asked to move forward.

Presentations are 3 minutes in length, and should focus on the ‘what’, ‘so what’ and ‘now what’ of their research. Each presentation will follow with 3 minutes of questions from a panel of judges.

A gold cash award will be given to the top participant based on the quality of their presentation and the impact of their research.

What Awards are available to be won?

Assuming there’s an adequate number of submissions within each training category, there will be a Gold, Silver and Bronze awarded for each category, and winners will receive a cash prize.

The “People’s Choice” award for best poster will be voted on by those in attendance at the poster session via printed ballot.
