Frequently asked questions

Who can participate in the abstract competition?

The aim of CHRD is to involve and highlight the work of all researchers investigating pediatric health and disease in Manitoba. We invite trainees at all levels (Undergraduate, Masters or PhD Students, Post-Doctoral Fellows, Residents) and research staff (Research Associates/Technicians/Allied Health Professionals) to submit an abstract of their work.

How are abstracts categorized?

Abstracts will be categorized in 3 themes: Basic Science, Clinical, and Community Health/Policy. Abstracts will be evaluated by a programming committee to determine final selection for presentation and will be programmed in a featured poster session.

Authors of the top 3 abstracts in each category will also be invited to compete in the Dr. GoodBear’s Den oral presentation competition.

What happens after abstracts are submitted?

All abstracts submitted will be entered into the CHRD poster competition. Participants will need to present their poster at the Poster Session Wine & Cheese event, held from 4:30-6:00PM on Wednesday, October 25th at the RBC Convention Centre.

A panel of visiting and local scientific leaders will select a gold, silver or bronze cash award winner in each of the 6 trainee categories: Undergraduate, Masters or PhD students, Post-Doctoral Fellows, Residents, and Research Associates/Technicians/Allied Health Professional.

What is Dr. GoodBear’s Den?

Dr. GoodBear’s Den oral presentations will be ranked by an awards panel that includes our CHRD invited speakers. A gold cash award will be given to the top participant based on the quality of their presentation and the impact of their research.
